Bali Airport Baggage Allowances by Airline (2026)
By the Bali Airport editorial team · Reviewed July 2026
Baggage rules for flights from Bali Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) depend far more on your airline and the fare you bought than on the airport itself. The same 23-kilo suitcase flies included on a full-service Garuda or Singapore Airlines ticket, comes bundled with some Qantas and Emirates fares, and costs extra on a low-cost AirAsia, Jetstar or Scoot "lite" fare. Pick your airline and fare below to see what you can bring, and what excess will cost if you are over.
⚠ Weight concept: your fare gives a total kg allowance. International economy is 30 kg; domestic flights within Indonesia are 20 kg.

Three Bali-specific things worth knowing
First, Bali has separate Domestic and International terminals. If you are self-connecting between an international arrival and a domestic flight on a low-cost carrier (Lion Air, Citilink, Batik Air) on two separate tickets, your bags are usually not checked through: you collect them, clear customs, and re-drop at the domestic terminal, where that carrier's own, often smaller, allowance applies. Leave a generous buffer.
Second, Bali is a surf and dive destination, and sports equipment is where budgets blow up. Surfboards, dive gear and bikes are almost never part of a standard allowance; most airlines treat them as a paid, pre-booked oversize item with its own fee, and space is capped per flight. Book the board bag online in advance, never at the airport, and confirm the length limit for your carrier.
Third, buying hold baggage online ahead of time is consistently cheaper than paying at the check-in desk, and on the low-cost carriers the airport price can be roughly double. If your plans change and you need a bag for the flight home, add it in the airline app the night before rather than at the counter.
Liquids, duty-free and connections
Standard security rules apply at DPS: liquids in cabin baggage up to 100 ml per container in a clear resealable bag. Duty-free bought airside travels in addition to your cabin allowance on most carriers, but sealed duty-free bags can be opened at transfer security if you connect through another country, so on connecting itineraries buy liquids at your final airport. When in doubt, the airline's own baggage page is the authority for your booking; every entry in the checker above links to the official source.

Baggage FAQ
Is checked baggage included in my ticket?▾
It depends on the fare. Full-service economy fares usually include a checked allowance, while the cheapest low-cost "lite" or "basic" fares are cabin-only and you add a hold bag for a fee. Pick your airline and fare in the checker above to see what is included.
How much does an extra or overweight bag cost?▾
It varies by airline and route, and buying online in advance is almost always cheaper than paying at the airport, where the price can roughly double on low-cost carriers. The checker shows each airline's overweight and oversize notes and links to its official baggage page for the exact fee.
What is the maximum weight for a single checked bag?▾
Almost every airline caps one checked bag at 32 kg (70 lb) for baggage-handler safety, no matter how large your total allowance is. If you are over, split the load across two bags rather than paying a heavy-bag penalty.
How big can my cabin bag be?▾
Most economy cabin allowances are around 7 to 8 kg with dimensions near 55 x 40 x 23 cm, but the exact figure changes by airline and fare. Check the "Cabin bag" row in the checker for your carrier before you pack.
Can I take a surfboard or dive gear from Bali?▾
Sports equipment such as surfboards, dive gear and bikes is almost never part of the standard allowance and must be pre-booked as a paid oversize item, with limited space per flight. Book it online in advance and confirm the length limit. Indonesia AirAsia is an exception, carrying one surfboard up to 15 kg free.
