Beach base or cultural base?

Ubud, inland and about an hour and a half away, trades the beach for rice terraces, temples, yoga retreats and Balinese culture, making it the natural pick for a slower, greener stay. Tuban and Jimbaran are the handiest of all for the airport if a short transfer matters to you.
Hotels for an early-morning or late-night flight
A dawn departure or a red-eye changes the maths. Staying in the airport area or Tuban, only a few minutes from the terminals, removes the risk of a long, traffic-bound drive across the island and lets you sleep a little later. Some properties run a shuttle to the terminal, though it is never guaranteed, so check the timing when you book. From a beach or Ubud hotel, a pre-booked transfer or taxi is the reliable way to reach check-in on time, allowing plenty of buffer for traffic.
